Twiss purchases new instrument

Automated water analysis now possible

Twiss Analytical Laboratories, Inc., of Poulsbo, the only private certified analytical laboratory in West Sound certified by the Department of Health and accredited by the Department of Ecology, has added state of the art instrumentation to it laboratory equipment. The company focuses on testing drinking water and environmental samples for chemical and bacterial contaminants.

With the purchase of an AlpKem FS 3000, Twiss Analytical will be able to perform automated analysis for nitrate,nitrite, orthophosphate, total phosphate, total Kjeldahl nitrogen and ammonia according to the firm's president, Steve Twiss. The instrument, valued at $35,000, will allow laboratory generated waste to be reduced and also provide for even better documentation of quality control results.

Twiss added that the purchase in that it will allow the laboratory, a participant in Kitsap County's EnviroStars program, to become even more environmentally friendly while doing testing for clients.
